CSA C68.9-09 pdf download – Covered overhead distribution line wire.
3 Definitions

The following definition shall apply in this Standard:
Line wire — a covered conductor that
(a) carries no voltage rating;
(b) is used mainly for overhead distribution lines; and
(c) is used and installed as a bare conductor.
4 Materials
4.1 Conductor
4.1.1 General
Conductor strands may be filled with a corrosion inhibitor in accordance with CSA C22.2 No. 1 29.
4.1.2 Aluminum and aluminum alloy conductors (ASC and AASC)
Before the application of the covering,
(a) a Type A1 aluminum conductor (concentric-lay-stranded ASC) shall meet the requirements of
CAN/CSA-C61 089;
(b) a Type A2 aluminum alloy conductor (concentric-lay-stranded AASC) shall meet the requirements of
CAN/CSA-C61 089; and
(c) a Type A1 aluminum conductor (compact round ASC) shall meet the requirements of CSA C49.5.
4.1.3 Aluminum conductors steel reinforced A1/S1A and A1F/S1A
(ACSR)
The steel core wire used for composite conductors shall meet the minimum requirements for S1 A wires.
Before the application of the covering,
(a) a Type A1 /S1 A conductor (concentric-lay-stranded ACSR) shall meet the requirements of
CAN/CSA-C61 089; and
(b) a Type A1 F/S1 A conductor (compact round ACSR) shall meet the requirements of CSA C49.2.
4.1.4 Copper conductors 4.1.4.1 Before the application of the covering, stranded copper conductors shall be of medium hard temper meeting the requirements of ASTM B8 for sizes No. 4/0 AWG and smaller. 4.1.4.2 Before the application of the covering, solid copper conductors shall be of medium hard temper meeting the requirements of ASTM B2. 4.2 Covering The covering shall be linear low-density, medium-density, or high-density polyethylene or cross-linked polyethylene compound that meets the requirements of CSA C22.2 No. 1 29, except that it may include a maximum of 5% reclaimed material. The covering carries no voltage rating, and the line wire shall be treated as a bare conductor. 5 Construction 5.1 Conductor Types A1 (ASC), A2 (AASC), and A1 /S1 A (ACSR) conductors shall be constructed in accordance with the requirements specified in Table 1 . Copper conductors shall be constructed in accordance with the requirements specified in Table 2. Type A1 F (compact round ASC) conductors shall be constructed in accordance with the requirements specified in Table 3. Type A1 F/S1 A (compact round ACSR) conductors shall be constructed in accordance with the requirements specified in Table 4. 5.2 Covering The minimum thickness of the extruded covering on the conductors shall be as given in Table 5 when determined in accordance with the apparatus and method specified in the insulation and jacket materials tests (thickness) in CAN/CSA-C22.2 No. 2556.
8 Packaging and package marking 8.1 General Line wire shall be packaged in continuous lengths in coils or on wood reels. Reels shall conform to NEMA WC 26/EEMAC 201 . Recommended wood reel sizes and lengths are listed in Table B.1 . The actual length on any reel shall fall within a tolerance of 5% of the shipping length. A length of conductor shorter than that recommended in Table B.1 may be supplied on a reel. The protective covering on reels shall be a Level 2 Weather Protector in accordance with NEMA WC 26/EEMAC 201 . Coils shall be protected by a weatherproof wrap and shall have a minimum inside diameter of 450 mm, a maximum outside diameter of 760 mm, and a maximum width of 250 mm. They shall be secured at a minimum of three equidistant points with nonmetallic ties. The ends of the conductor on each reel shall be suitably bound and secured to the reel. 8.2 Package marking Package marking shall be provided on one or more tags located on the outside of the flange or on each coil. Where multiple tags are used, they shall be adjacent to each other. On reels, the tags shall be located a minimum of 1 50 mm from the outer edge of the flange. Package marking shall remain intact and legible for a minimum of one year. The following information shall be provided on package marking: (a) “Ship to” location; (b) cable length (metres); (c) gross, net, and tare mass; (d) cable type (“Line Wire”); (e) material code number; (f) order number; (g) manufacturer’s name; (h) date of manufacture (date of packaging onto shipping reel); (i) size and code word (if applicable), number of individual wires, and type of stranding (compact, compressed, round wire); (j) type of conductor material; (k) covering type; (l) reel serial number; and (m) reel size.CSA C68.9-09 pdf download.
