3. Connecting fittings shall be faced or otherwise finished externally to provide an adequate hexagonal or octagonal wrench grip. 4. Connecting fitting threads intended for pipe connections shall be taper pipe threads conforming to the Standard for Pipe Threads, General Purpose (Inch), ANSI/ASME B1.20.1. The length to shoulder shall not be less than shown in Table I, Minimum Acceptable Wall Thickness for Nonferrous Semi-Rigid Tubing. 5. Union seats shall not depend upon gaskets for gas tightness. Listed quick-disconnect devices are exempt from this provision. 6. Gas hose connectors shall withstand a pulling force without damage to the connector or shall be listed by a nationally recognized testing agency as propane hose assemblies with a maximum working pressure of at least 1 350 psi (9.32 MPa). Method of Test Three new test samples, each 1 ft long (305 mm), shall be provided for a connector to be tested under this provision. The connecting fitting on each end of each sample is to be made up tightly with a corresponding companion part. Each sample shall be connected to a mechanical pulling means so both end fittings, fitting joints, and hose are subjected to the pulling force. The pulling force shall be 400 lb (1 .78 kN) for connectors having nominal inside diameters of 5 / 8 in (1 5.9 mm) or less and 750 lb (3.34 kN) for larger connectors. The mechanical pulling means shall extend the sample at a rate of 1 / 2 in per minute (0.21 mm/s) until the applicable force is reached and shall then maintain this force for 1 minute. Each connector shall not rupture or show other evidence of failure. 7. Gas hose connectors shall withstand a 1 750 psi (1 2.08 MPa) hydrostatic pressure without rupture or permanent distortion or shall be listed by a nationally recognized testing agency as propane hose assemblies with a maximum working pressure of at least 350 psi (2.41 MPa).
1.41 Self-Contained LP-Gas Supply Systems 1.41.6 An appliance for connection to a self-contained LP-gas supply system shall be equipped with a pressure regulator(s) complying with the Standard for Pressure Regulating Valves for LP-Gas, ANSI/UL 144, as a part of the self-contained LP-gas supply system. The delivery pressure of the regulator system at the inlet to the appliance control system shall not exceed 1 1 iwc (2.74 kPa). Also see Section 1 .1 5, Gas Appliance Pressure Regulators. The regulator shall incorporate an integral pressure relief valve or over-pressure shutoff device. The inlet of the pressure regulator shall be fitted for attachment to one of the following: a. A CGA No. 791 Cylinder Connection Device, complying with the Standard for Cylinder Connection Devices, ANSI Z21.81 • CSA 6.25 or the Standard for Adapters and Cylinder Connetion Devices for Portable Lp-Gas Cylinder Assemblies, UL 2061 and complying with 1 .41 .7, 1 .41 .1 1 ; or b. A CGA No. 81 0 Cylinder Connection Device, complying with the Standard for Cylinder Connection Devices, ANSI Z21.81 • CSA 6.25 or the Standard for Adapters and Cylinder Connetion Devices for Portable Lp-Gas Cylinder Assemblies, UL 2061 and complying with 1 .41 .7, 1 .41 .9, 1 .41 .1 1 ; or c. A No. 600 Cylinder Connection Device as specified in the Standard for Compressed Gas Cylinder Valve Outlet and Inlet Connections, ANSI/CGA-V-1, and complying with 1 .41 .1 0 and Figure 1 , CGA No. 600 Cylinder Connection Device, or d. A No. 51 0 Cylinder Connection Device as specified in the Standard for Compressed Gas Cylinder Valve Outlet and Inlet Connections, ANSI/CGA-V-1, and complying with 1 .41 .8 and 1 .41 .1 0. (This provision is only applicable for LP-cylinders in excess of 20 lb (9.1 kg).
1.41.7 Except for a No. 51 0 or a No. 600 Cylinder Connection Device, connection devices shall: a. Not permit the flow of gas until a positive gas seal has been achieved; b. Have a thermal shut-off device complying with the Standard for Cylinder Connection Devices, ANSI Z21.81 • CSA 6.25 or the Standard for Adapters and Cylinder Connetion Devices for Portable Lp-Gas Cylinder Assemblies, UL 2061; c. Have an excess flow device complying with the Standard for Cylinder Connection Devices, ANSI Z21.81 • CSA 6.25 or the Standard for Adapters and Cylinder Connetion Devices for Portable Lp-Gas Cylinder Assemblies, UL 2061. For appliances with a manufacturer’s rated input of 80,000 Btu/hr (23 446 W) and below (with a 5 percent plus or minus tolerance), Class I excess flow device shall be used. For appliances with a manufacturer’s rated input higher than 80,000 Btu/hr (23 446 W) (with a 5 percent plus or minus tolerance), Class II device may be used. The by-pass flow rate after the device activates will be no greater than 1 0 scfh/hr (0.28 m 3 /hr).CSA 1.8B-2009 pdf download.
