CSA C49.3-10 pdf download – Aluminum 1 350 wire, annealed and intermediate tempers, for electrical purposes.
1 Scope 1.1 This Standard covers the electrical and mechanical characteristics of aluminum 1 350 wire, in annealed and intermediate tempers, for stranding into conductors or for use as solid single conductors. 1.2 In CSA Standards, “shall” is used to express a requirement, i.e., a provision that the user is obliged to satisfy in order to comply with the standard; “should” is used to express a recommendation or that which is advised but not required; “may” is used to express an option or that which is permissible within the limits of the standard; and “can” is used to express possibility or capability. Notes accompanying clauses do not include requirements or alternative requirements; the purpose of a note accompanying a clause is to separate from the text explanatory or informative material. Notes to tables and figures are considered part of the table or figure and may be written as requirements. Annexes are designated normative (mandatory) or informative (non-mandatory) to define their application. 2 Reference publication This Standard refers to the following publication, and where such reference is made, it shall be to the edition listed below, including all amendments published thereto. CSA (Canadian Standards Association) CAN/CSA-C60889-03 (R2007) Hard-drawn aluminum wire for overhead line conductors 3 Definitions The following definitions shall apply in this Standard: Lot — all reels or coils of wire of the same diameter that are produced (a) at the same location; (b) under the same manufacturing conditions; and (c) during the same time period. Temper designations — 1350-0 temper — a designation for wire that has been drawn or rolled to final size and then heat treated to its lowest-strength temper to improve ductility and remove the effects of cold working.
4.4 Joints 4.4.1 Joints made before final drawing Joints may be made in rods and wire before final drawing, in accordance with good manufacturing practice. 4.4.2 Joints made during final drawing or in finished wire Joints may be made during final drawing or in the finished wire by (a) electric butt welding; (b) electric butt cold-upset welding; or (c) cold pressure welding. Not more than two such joints shall be present in any reel or coil of the nominal specified weight. 4.4.3 Tension test (optional) Joints as permitted in Clause 4.4.2 may be subjected to tension tests. When such tests are performed, the minimum tensile requirements specified in Table 2 shall be met. Note: Sampling is subject to agreement between the purchaser and the manufacturer. 4.5 Tensile properties The wire shall conform to the requirements specified in Table 2.
5 Test methods 5.1 Sampling Samples for test purposes shall be taken from the outer ends of not less than 1 0% of reels or coils but from not fewer than five reels or coils (or the entire lot if the lot is smaller than five reels or coils). 5.2 Tensile strength The tensile strength of the wire shall be tested using the apparatus and method specified in Clause 1 0.1 of CAN/CSA-C60889. 5.3 Resistivity The electrical resistivity of the wire shall be determined in accordance with Clause 1 1 of CAN/CSA-C60889. 5.4 Retests 5.4.1 When a sample from any reel or coil is tested, and the results do not comply with the requirements of this Standard, two additional samples shall be taken from the same reel or coil. Both of these samples shall meet the requirements. If these samples do not meet the requirements, the lot from which they are selected shall be deemed not to comply with this Standard. 5.4.2 For lots rejected in accordance with Clause 5.4.1 , the manufacturer may test every individual reel or coil of wire in the lot to determine if they meet the requirements of this Standard. 6 Packaging and shipping Note: Package sizes and types are subject to agreement between the manufacturer and the purchaser. See also Annex A. 6.1 The wire shall be protected against damage during ordinary handling and shipping. 6.2 Unless otherwise specified, the wire in each package shall be supplied in one continuous length.CSA C49.3-10 pdf download.
