1 Scope 1.1 This Standard applies to factory-made automatic icemakers with a capacity not exceeding 1814 kg/d, measured at standard rating conditions. These machines produce cube, flake, crushed, or fragmented ice in batches or in a continuous process. They are electrically operated and are designed for a 60 Hz operating current with nominal nameplate voltage. 1.2 This Standard applies to freestanding and integral factory-made manual-scoop-out ice storage bins. 1.3 This Standard specifies requirements and test procedures for energy and water consumption and storage effectiveness. 1.4 This Standard applies to (a) self-contained icemakers where the ice-making mechanism and storage compartment are integrated in one cabinet; and (b) split-system icemakers that have the ice-making mechanism and condensing unit in separate sections. Condensers can be air- or water-cooled. 1.5 This Standard does not apply to (a) icemakers installed in (i) household refrigerators; (ii) refrigerator-freezers; or (iii) freezers; (b) countertop models; or (c) cold-plate drink dispensers. 1.6 The values given in SI (metric) units are the standard. The values given in parentheses are for information only. 1.7 In CSA Standards, “shall” is used to express a requirement, i.e., a provision that the user is obliged to satisfy in order to comply with the standard; “should” is used to express a recommendation or that which is advised but not required; “may” is used to express an option or that which is permissible within the limits of the standard; and “can” is used to express possibility or capability.

Automatic ice-dispensing machine — an ice storage device that dispenses ice with a powered system activated by the user. Automatic icemaker — a factory-made assembly consisting of a condensing unit and ice-making section operating as an integrated unit, with means for making and harvesting ice. Notes: (1) Automatic icemakers can include means for storing ice. (2) Automatic icemakers can be shipped as separate components. Batch-type icemaker — an icemaker having alternating freezing and harvesting periods.
Cube-type icemaker — an icemaker that produces a product that is hard, solid, usually clear, fairly uniform, and generally weighs less than 60 g (2 oz) per piece. Dump water — the water that is drained from an icemaker to control the clarity of ice or to prevent scaling. Ice hardness factor (for continuous-type icemakers) — the latent heat capacity of harvested ice, in W•h/kg (Btu/lb) (as defined in ANSI/ASHRAE Standard 29, Table A1, Line 15), divided by 92.9 W•h/kg (144 Btu/lb), multiplied by 100 (expressed as a percentage). Ice storage bin — a factory-made assembly consisting of a non-refrigerated compartment for the storage of ice. Note: Ice storage bins can be shipped as separate components. Performance rating — a standard rating or an application rating, as defined by the manufacturer. Published rating — the specified performance values, determined under stated rating conditions, by which a unit is assigned an application. Note: These values apply to all units of like nominal size and type produced by the same manufacturer. Rating conditions — the operating conditions that produce a specific performance level. Self-contained icemaker — an icemaker in which the ice-making mechanism and storage compartment are in an integral cabinet. Split-system icemaker — an icemaker in which the ice-making mechanism and condenser or condensing unit are in separate sections. Standard conditions — the rating conditions used as the basis of comparison of performance characteristics.
